Help
How Gallpack actually works. If something here doesn't answer your question, write to us. A person reads every message.
Getting started
Four steps, and the third is the one people skip.
- Make your page at /join. Pick the address people will use:
gallpack.com/your-name. You can change it later from your profile (once every 30 days) and the old address keeps redirecting, so choose the one you'd put on a card. - Confirm your email. We send a link. Until you click it your work won't appear in discovery. And more importantly, if the address is wrong we can't help you back in later.
- Stage your work from the studio. A person checks every piece before it appears publicly.
- When you're ready to sell, list an original at $100 or more from its edit page. You'll add a card once; the day that piece sells, Pro starts. Or subscribe first to list at any price and link out to your own store from your profile. Either way, finish payout setup on your billing page so buyers can actually check out.
Your Canvas
Your Canvas is your wall. Pieces hang at their real proportions on a neutral mat, sized relative to each other: a tall portrait and a wide landscape sit on the same line the way they would in a room, rather than being cropped into identical squares.
You control the hang order. In the studio, drag a piece or use the arrow buttons. That order is your curation: which piece someone meets first, what sits beside what.
Upload the best image you have. Your browser makes three smaller versions for the page and keeps your full-resolution file for the zoom view. At least 1200 pixels on the short edge is a good floor; below that the zoom looks soft.
Being found
Discover is where visitors browse work from every artist. To appear there you need a confirmed email and at least one piece through review.
Being straight about this: the ordering on Discover is deliberately simple right now: paid tiers surface first, then most recent. It is not a clever recommendation engine, and we would rather say so than imply one exists. Making discovery genuinely good is the main thing we're working on.
You can also bring your own audience. The studio gives you a follow link to send to a mailing list or post wherever people already follow you. Anyone who signs up through it follows you automatically.
Selling
Selling means Pro: your first $100+ original sale starts it, or you subscribe first. On Pro, your page links out to wherever you already sell: Big Cartel, Shopify, your own site. The sale is between you and the buyer. Gallpack never touches it and takes 0% of it. We don't see the transaction and we don't want to.
Pro-tier artists can also sell directly through Gallpack's own checkout (originals and prints both) for a flat $1 per sale, on top of real payment-processing costs. Never a commission, and it doesn't grow with the price of the piece. See the Guarantee for what a return actually costs you, or the terms for the full policy.
Fees, in full
There are exactly three numbers, and this is all of them.
- Commission: 0%. At every tier, including the free one. Gallpack takes no percentage of your sale price under any circumstances.
- A flat $1 per sale, paid by the buyer on top of your price. It never grows with the price of the piece.
- Card processing, at cost, deducted from your payout. When a buyer pays by card, the card networks and Stripe charge about 2.9% + 30¢ of the total to move the money (plus Stripe's 0.5% tax-handling fee on a sale where sales tax is collected, and Stripe's 0.4% fraud-protection fee where Gallpack has it switched on). Gallpack keeps none of it and adds nothing to it — your payout itemises the exact amount charged on each sale.
When the money arrives. An original's payout is released 14 days after the carrier confirms delivery. Three kinds of sale wait 30 days instead: your first three sales, any sale of $1,000 or more, and a sale to a buyer whose account is under two weeks old — the order page says which applied. On a sale of $1,000 or more with a warning sign on the payment, a person at Gallpack checks the payment before you're asked to ship; you get a second email that says "ship it", and your 3 days start then. Every label bought in the Studio is signature-on-delivery; if you ship on your own label, add the signature at the counter — it is what settles a "never arrived" claim. On an original of $1,000 or more a collector can pay straight from a US bank account: it costs you 0.8% capped at $5 instead of the card's ~3%, clears in a few business days (the piece is held meanwhile, and you're asked to ship when it lands), and settles on the standard 14-day hold.
Three things worth knowing about that third one. The rate depends on the buyer's card: an internationally issued card costs roughly 1.5% more, so any figure shown while you are pricing a piece is an estimate and says so, while the figure on your payout is what was actually charged. A sale paid from a Gallpack balance carries no processing at all — there is no card, so there is nothing to process, and you receive the full price less only the flat $1. And when a sale is unwound, the processing is borne by whoever unwound it: the buyer, out of their refund, on a change of mind; you, on a piece that arrived damaged or an order you did not ship — deducted from what you keep of the sale, or from your next payout, and itemised on Billing & Payouts. Never Gallpack.
Every other marketplace pays this same charge and hides it inside its commission — a 40% commission has plenty of room to absorb 3%. Gallpack hasn't got a commission to hide it in, so it is named here, in the terms, on the page where you set your price, and on every payout. You are still keeping far more of your sale price than you would anywhere else.
Tiers
Free, then $40/mo. Annual is twelve months at the monthly price, and holds that price for as long as you renew. Every tier takes 0% commission. That's the product, not a promotion.
What each tier includes, row by row, is on the plans page, read straight from the same code that enforces it; the short version is that Free is a complete gallery page with a 10-piece Canvas, and Pro adds everything else: a 200-piece Canvas, originals at any price, prints in the full range, commissions, bidding, reserve-and-pay plans, featured slots, your own domain, a newsletter, a link to your own store and per-piece stats.
The honest version of the pricing: below roughly $1,200/yr in sales, a percentage commission elsewhere costs you less in raw dollars than $40/mo here. That's exactly why the ladder starts at $0. We'd rather have you on Free than overpaying.
Following artists
A free account, separate from an artist page. Follow artists, favorite pieces, and they collect on your collection page. Favoriting is one action: it saves the piece and tells the artist their work landed.
You choose what reaches your inbox in notification preferences, and every notification email has an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
When it arrives
Hang the centre of a piece 57 inches from the floor — gallery height, and the thing almost everybody gets wrong by hanging too high. Which hook depends on the weight, and whether it needs framing depends on how the artist finished it; every listing says which. The whole guide covers height, hardware, wall types, framing, light and damp, and what to do if it turns up damaged.
Review and reports
Every staged piece is looked at by a person before it goes public. We're checking two things: that it's your own work, and that it's physical or fine art rather than digital work or something AI-generated presented as hand-made. Most platforms only react to complaints. We'd rather look first.
Visitors can report a piece. Enough independent reports temporarily hide it until a person reviews it. A hide is not a finding against you. It's a pause. If your work is hidden and you think that's wrong, your studio shows a link to appeal, and a person will look again. We'd much rather restore a wrongly hidden piece than leave it down.
Your account
Everything lives at /account:
- Password: changing it signs out every other device.
- Email: needs your password, and the new address isn't used until you confirm it. Your old one keeps working meanwhile.
- Two-factor: a code from an app on top of your password. You get ten backup codes; save them, they're shown once.
- Sessions: where you're signed in, and a way to sign out everywhere else.
- Activity: sign-ins and changes to your account. If something there wasn't you, change your password.
- Pause: hides your page without deleting anything. Reversible whenever.
- Export: everything we hold about you, as a file, immediately.
- Delete: permanent, and it really removes the image files, not just the records.
When something's wrong
The confirmation email never arrived
Check spam first. Then resend from your studio. If you mistyped your address, fix it at /account/email while you're still signed in. That's the important one, because once you're signed out a wrong address means a password reset can't reach you.
I can't sign in
Reset your password. If you've lost your two-factor device, use one of your backup codes in the same box. If you've lost both, tell us. A person can help.
My work isn't showing up
Usually one of three things, in order of likelihood: it's still in review; your email isn't confirmed, so you're held out of discovery; or you're on Free and have hit the 10-piece limit. Your studio shows which of these applies.
The zoom looks soft
The zoom shows the largest file you uploaded. Re-upload at a higher resolution and it improves. We don't invent detail that wasn't there.
