What actually happens if a piece you buy through Gallpack checkout doesn't work out. This only covers purchases made through Gallpack: an original or a print, paid for on this site. It's a plain-language summary; the Terms are the binding version.

Your payment is held, not released instantly

When you buy an original, Gallpack holds the payment until 14 days after the carrier confirms it was delivered, and only then sends it to the artist. That's what makes the return below possible to undo cleanly, instead of trying to claw money back after it's already moved. A slow shipment doesn't shorten anything: the clock starts when the piece reaches you. On some sales — an artist's first few, a piece of $1,000 or more, a brand-new account — the hold is 30 days; that changes nothing for you. On a sale of $1,000 or more, a person at Gallpack may look at the payment before the artist is asked to ship, usually within the day; if we can't complete the order, you're refunded everything but the $1 before anything moves. Every original an artist ships through Gallpack's labels is delivered against a signature.

Not shipped in 3 days? Cancel it

An original that hasn't shipped 3 days after you pay can be cancelled from your order page, no questions and no waiting on anyone: everything comes back except Gallpack's flat $1, shipping included. The piece goes back on sale and the artist is never paid for the order.

14 days to change your mind

An original may be returned once, within 14 days of delivery. You get back what you paid, less four things: the shipping you paid, the artist's 5% for handling the return, the card processing on the sale (about 3%, which the card networks keep whether or not the sale stands), and Gallpack's flat $1 — and you cover the return shipping. On a $500 piece with free shipping that's about $460 back. The 5% is the one place a percentage applies anywhere in this product (everywhere else it's a flat $1 or nothing), and it exists so a casual return costs something before it happens. Gallpack keeps nothing of a return but its $1.

If something's actually wrong, you get all of it back

If a piece arrives damaged, or is materially different from how it was listed, none of the above applies. You're refunded the full price, shipping included, and the artist keeps nothing. Tell us and a person will make it right.

Gallpack's own flat $1 checkout fee is never refunded, either way. It's the one fee in this product that doesn't bend for a return.

A gift nobody claimed

A piece bought as a gift is held for the recipient for 30 days. If they don't claim it, it goes back on sale and you're refunded everything except the $1 and the card processing.

A real certificate, not a PDF you have to ask for

Every completed order gets a certificate of authenticity automatically: the piece, the artist, the date, and the price you paid, available from your order the moment payment clears.

What this doesn't cover

Prints are final sale for a change of mind -- but not if yours arrives damaged, defective, or materially different from what you ordered. Report it on your order page within 14 days of receiving it (the sooner the better: the printer's own window for transit damage is short) and, once confirmed, a replacement is sent at no charge -- or, if one can't be made, you're refunded in full the same way as a damaged original above. A print ships through one of Gallpack's own print partners, not the artist directly, so this is handled by Gallpack support rather than the artist. A purchase made on an artist's own outside store (not Gallpack checkout) is covered by that store's own policy, not this one -- Gallpack never touches that transaction.

A commission -- a custom piece an artist makes to your own brief -- is not returnable, and this guarantee doesn't apply to it. You see photos and accept the finished piece before the balance is due; the deposit is refundable (less its card processing) until the artist starts; Gallpack's $1 on each payment never is. What changed, and when

Every material change to this page is listed here with the date it took effect. The version at the top is the date of the current text.

20 September 2026: The hold on some sales is 30 days rather than 14 (first sales, $1,000 and up, brand-new accounts), which changes nothing for the buyer; a payment check may precede shipping on a sale of $1,000 or more, and a declined order is refunded but for the $1 before anything moves; originals shipped on Gallpack labels are delivered against a signature.
18 September 2026: What a change-of-mind return refunds, stated exactly: the price less shipping, the artist's 5%, the card processing and the $1. A damaged piece is still everything back but the $1. Effective date, version and this change log added.
